How to Access a Throne

You've found a Throne and really gotta go - now what? Luckily, there are 4 simple, quick ways to access a Throne: QR code, SMS, mobile app, or phoneless entry card. All 4 ways promote user accountability to ensure a clean and delightful experience for all.

Here's how:

Scan the QR code

The fastest and easiest way to enter a Throne is to scan the QR code at the entrance. You can do this by scanning the QR code at the entrance and sending the pre-populated text that automatically appears (shown in the video below).

Send a SMS

You can also text "Throne" to 202-751-3694, then providing the Unit Code found near the door.

Once the text is sent, the door will open for you and your 10-minute timer begins.

(Note: Remember that whichever way you send the text, you're agreeing to Throne's Terms of Service.)

Use the Throne Bathroom Network app

Prefer to use an app? The Throne Bathroom Network app, available for both Android and Apple devices, provides a map of locations, real-time cleanliness ratings, and the option to open a Throne with just a few clicks. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Throne Bathroom Network app.
  2. Click on the location of the Throne you want to use.
  3. Click "Open Door."

Use a phoneless entry card

In some of our markets, we work with local organizations who can provide a free phoneless entry card to those who don't have a phone. These include organizations supporting those who are unhoused as well as public resources, such as libraries. Users can visit them to register for a phoneless entry card and receive one on-site.

To open a Throne with a phoneless entry card, simply hold your card up to the door (see video below for a demo).
