Frequently Asked Questions
Yes!
On average, Thrones are cleaned every 12-16 uses. To make our team as efficient and effective as possible, we use our in-house Cleaning Management System that's powered by two algorithms:
- CleanRisk Score: Calculated based on usage levels and cleanliness ratings that indicate how urgently a Throne needs to be cleaned.
- NextClean Suggestion Engine: Recommends to our local cleaning team which Throne needs attention next - balancing both the CleanRisk score and commute time.
That means you get peace of mind that we proactively keep Thrones clean and rapidly respond to urgent cleanliness issues. Your community spends more time outside and less time worrying about finding a clean, comfortable restroom.
The 10-minute time limit not only helps prevent misuse, it’s also a safety measure in the case of a medical emergency.
Throne’s 4 access methods (QR code, SMS, mobile app, phoneless entry card) combined with the 10-minute time limit promotes user accountability. When there is a small barrier to entry, users tend to treat a place better.
In the worst case scenario, users can be sent warnings or even restricted from using Throne if there is evidence of vandalization or misuse (don’t worry, this only happens 0.2% of the time).
When something is damaged, we’ve designed rapid response solutions that include:
- Anti-graffiti wallpaper inside and out that enables us to simply wipe off graffiti.
- Modular parts (toilet, sink, etc.) that can be repaired or replaced easily.
- Replaceable mirror peels.
Fun fact: 98% of Americans own some kind of cell phone (according to Pew Research Center). But for those who don’t have a phone, phoneless entry cards can be provided to local libraries, homeless service providers, and other advocacy groups for distribution.
We're no stranger to winter (see Ann Arbor, MI, and Washington, DC), so one of the first things we do is connect a Throne to power. Plugging in for heating means we can handle temperatures down to -10⁰F.
Since Thrones are designed to be long-term, semi-permanent solutions for expanding public restroom access, we don't typically offer them for short-term events. Want one in your community? Let your city leaders know!
