Hi, we're Throne

We’re optimistic, we’re thoughtful, and we genuinely love working on toilets. Strategically located throughout our active US markets, none of us are ever far from a Throne. We believe everyone deserves a clean, safe, and delightful place to go.
Our mission

Clean, accessible public restrooms for all

We envision a world in which people live their best lives without worrying about where the closest restroom is. We founded Throne to reimagine restrooms from the ground up using modern technology to make them cleaner, more accessible, and cost-effective.

Because everyone deserves a clean, delightful restroom.

The problem

There aren't enough public restrooms

Most American cities lack adequate public restrooms. The statistics are stark: for every 100,000 people in the U.S., there are only 8 public toilets available (Iceland has 56).

The data

A recent study shows that many people are forced to adjust their day-to-day lives based on restroom access.
44%
plan their routes to ensure access to public restrooms
38%
avoid eating or drinking to limit public restroom use
26%
skip social events due to restroom access concerns
1/6
left a job due to poor restroom conditions

The story of Throne

Throne Labs was founded in 2020 to solve a problem everyone experiences: scrambling to find a clean and accessible public restroom when you need it. Co-founder and CEO Fletcher Wilson knew this problem well, often admitting, “My GI system is my worst system.” When his experience turned into curiosity about public restroom access in the U.S., he found that he wasn’t alone in this problem. After hearing stories from everyone from delivery drivers to runners to parents with kids, it became clear that this issue is as universal as it is overlooked.

And so, Throne was born.

Armed with backgrounds in engineering, entrepreneurship, and social impact, our team of co-founders set out to create a public restroom solution that could be available within hours, not years—and was actually pleasant to use. After several iterations and years of testing, we launched our first permanent Throne in March 2023 in Washington, D.C.’s fastest growing neighborhood: Capitol Riverfront.

Today, Thrones can be found across the country in downtown areas, parks, and transit stations. Users from all walks of life love our high standards of cleanliness, accessibility, and intentional use of technology. Our team is genuinely excited to provide delightful and dignified places to go, and we can’t wait for you to join us, too.

Our values

Be loveable
We put love and care into everything we do: building and maintaining restrooms that people actually enjoy using, being thoughtful and honest with our partners, and treating each other with kindness and compassion.
Don’t be creepy
Knowing that people are most vulnerable when they use the restroom, we never overstep the boundaries. We’re careful to avoid invasive features and collect minimal data, which is only used to ensure the best restroom experience.
The Owner-Plumber
No one is above rolling up their sleeves to make sure every Throne is clean, functional, and cared for. Regardless of our title, we stay humble and share responsibility to build a great restroom and company—as proud owners and plumbers.
Transparency is royal
We build trust through open and direct communication with teammates, partners, and users. We speak honestly, take ownership when things go wrong, and always strive to repair and improve.
Prioritize safety
Since Thrones live in the physical world and involve handling sensitive material, safety is a non-negotiable. We prioritize the wellbeing of our staff, partners, and users in every decision we make.
I ❤️ toilets
We unapologetically love bathrooms and embrace our mission, which is why we seek out people who feel the same. We’re not just providing restrooms; we’re partnering with forward-thinking leaders to solve real problems and serve our communities.
